ABOUT THE AUSS CONVENTION

The convention is only open to AUSS chorus members. 

THE DATES

The 2023 AUSS National Convention will happen between Wednesday August 2^nd and Saturday the 5^th, 2023. The Concert will take place on August 5th, 2023.

THE HOTEL & CONCERT LOCATION

We’ll stay and perform at Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria, located at 200 Interstate North Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA 30339. Phone: 1-800-627-7468. (1-800-MARRIOTT). Hotel website. This location is next to I-75, across Atlanta’s new baseball stadium, Truist Park in “The Battery”, with lots of restaurants and stores. From the hotel to the Battery is an eight-minute walk – or shuttle. More restaurants are located close to the hotel.

All the AUSS activities will happen at the hotel, the rehearsals, the parties, the Grand Concert.

Double rooms are $155.06 per night including taxes and fees, that is $77.53 per person and night. There are no single rooms. The AUSS group rate is $129.00 for a double room (no single rooms) plus $26.06 (taxes and state and local tourism/hotel fees). Marriott will honor this rate from Sunday, July 30 to Monday, August 7. If you are single, try to find someone to share the room with.
Reservations must be received by the hotel by Thursday, July 13th, 2023. After this date reservations at the group rate will not be available. NOTE: All hotel rooms at this rate may be sold out much earlier! Please do not wait to make your reservation!

SCHEDULE

Wednesday August 2^nd

This is the day of arrival for most participants. In the evening a Welcome Party and Show will happen. We are planning for a great show, including performances by the invited Swedish guest choir and soloist (see Saturday). There will be a great variety of entertainment.

Thursday August 3^rd

Rehearsals. In the evening the traditional Individual Chorus Night will take place, and also entertainment such as quartets and instrumental groups.

Friday August 4^th

Rehearsals and two workshops. The Banquet with entertainment is in the evening.

Saturday August 5^th

In the morning a four-hour sightseeing tour in Atlanta and in the afternoon dress-rehearsal on stage and soundchecks. Price $50/person.

The Grand Concert will start at 7:00 pm. It will consist of two parts. The first part will include performances of smaller groups, guest chorus Akademiska kören from Stockholm conducted by Håkan Sund and solos by guest tenor Niklas Björling Rygert from the Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm.

During the intermission the big AUSS “Grand Chorus” will take place on the risers. The second part includes a mix of SATB, TTBB and SSA songs.

After scheduled programs all evenings will conclude at a hospitality room for partying, singing and having fun.

TOUR

There will be a four-hour tour around Atlanta by bus on Saturday morning. Price $50/person.

WORKSHOPS

1. Håkan Sund explains all mysterious movements a conductor does when he conducts.

2. Nathan Leaf will lecture about Swedish composer Hugo Alfvén.

3. Rae and Jim Gulick will teach Swedish Folkdancing.

MORE INFORMATION

In late spring of 2022 the music for all songs for the Grand Chorus program, at the Grand Concert, will be sent out to the AUSS choruses. Updates will be available at this website.

GRAND CONCERT ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 5TH, 2023

This big concert is open to the public. It will be held at the hotel on August 5th, 2023, starting at 7:00 pm. Free parking. We’ll provide all information about the concert on this website including how to get tickets and directions to the hotel, etc.
